Bangarra Dance Theatre is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation and one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies, widely acclaimed nationally and around the world for their powerful dancing, distinctive theatrical voice and utterly unique soundscapes, music and design.
Following the success of Waru: journey of the small turtle in 2022 – and its 2023 and 2024 touring, Bangarra is embarking on the creative development for a new children’s work, The Bogong’s Song, for ages 7-12 years old.
This brand-new work from Yolande Brown and Chenoa Deemal, The Bogong’s Song is a rich blend of storytelling, shadow puppetry, dance, and song. As the children open their hearts to the stories of their ancestors, we are all invited to experience connection to country and discover that even the smallest creatures have a vital role to play.
Bangarra has seen great demand for its first children’s work. Waru has been presented across two years in Sydney (at both Bangarra’s Walsh Bay Studios and Sydney Opera House), across Australia, as well returning to country on Thursday Island in 2023. Waru was watched by more than 25,000 children.
The Bogong’s Song is being developed in Queensland, utilising rehearsal spaces and premiering at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Following the season in Brisbane in September 2025, the production will be presented to Sydney audiences at Bangarra’s Walsh Bay Studios in October 2025.
