Adelaide Festival – A Little Life

The Adelaide Festival has been presenting world-class Australian and international theatre companies and artists as well as some of the world’s best musicians, dance performers, writers and visual art events for over 60 years. It is an annual 4-week event in March, featuring numerous Australian and world premieres.

Ivo van Hove, acclaimed director of Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, created a unique theatre experience with his production of A Little Life, adapted from the novel by Hanya Yanagihara. The book (same title) moved millions of readers worldwide. The play was previously performed in Amsterdam, New York and at the Edinburgh Festival. A Little Life follows the lives of four men in New York for more than 30 years, exposing their ambitions, privilege, cruelty and power. Their close friendship is challenged by the story of one man haunted by his history. The extraordinary ensemble of actors tells this story with compelling and shattering performances (250 minutes, Dutch with overtitles). Quote Financial Times “This is van Hove at his best, theatre that leaves an ineradicable mark”.

The Girgensohn Foundation supported the AF production of A Little Life as part of the donor circle.
